Hotel Tegnérlunden is owned by Probitas - Immanuelskyrkans Förvaltnings AB (IFAB). The hotel is run jointly with the Hotel Birger Jarl, which is owned by the same company.

Tegnérlunden – the hill that became a park

Tegnérlunden is one of Stockholm’s typical hill parks and was laid out in the 1890’s. Before it was a park, the hilltop was home to the Barnhus mill that ground corn and the HampStamp mill that produced hemp. A spring, over which a spa was built in the 1940s, rises from the summit, running over a paved streambed down the hillside to a little pond. Close to the pond, you’ll find a playground and a boules court, and opposite the entrance to the hotel, a pergola and a small flower garden.

The Tegnér after whom the park was named in 1885, is, of course, Sweden’s first “best-selling author”, Esaias Tegnér, a bishop and national poet, famed far beyond Sweden’s borders

Walk in the masters’ footsteps

You’ll see him as soon as you approach the hotel. Impressive and powerful, he clenches his muscles above the steep slope of Tegnérgatan. This bronze monument to August Strindberg was created by his close friend, Carl Eldh in 1942. The inner struggle that Strindberg wages is clearly visible, all the way from our hotel windows.

At the other end of the park, down below the spa pavilion heading towards Upplandsgatan, you’ll find a slightly more unobtrusive sculpture amongst the lilac bushes. It’s Astrid Lindgren and this is the natural place for her to be because during one period of her life, she walked to work through Tegnérlunden. It was here that she gained the inspiration for Mio, my Mio amongst others, and the home address of one of the characters from the book, Bo Vilhelm Olsson, was Upplandsgatan 13 B.

As you look out over the park, you might notice that it is home to an unusual number of birds. Perhaps it was this that provided the inspiration for a book written in 2001 by Vibeke Olsson and entitled “The Blackbird in Tegnérlunden

Club BT is the joint regular guest programme of Hotel Tegnérlunden and Hotel Birger Jarl. Club BT offers you, as a frequent guest, a number of benefits.

All you need to do to qualify as a Hotel Tegnérlunden regular guest is to stay with us for one night and fill in an application form at the same time. After that you will be offered a number of benefits, depending on the number of nights stayed. The two hotels will have separate benefits.

Your club card is valid at both the hotels and you have the opportunity to make use of your free nights at either Hotel Tegnérlunden or Hotel Birger Jarl.

Club BT levels

Club BT is divided into three levels – Club Member, VIP Member and Exclusive Member for those of you who have a great number of overnight stays per year. Read more about the different levels below.

Club Member

• Regular information via the See You newsletter.
• A voucher worth SEK 25 in the lobby bar.
• Ten overnight stays give you one free night for 2 people during weekends and summer season (must be prebooked).

VIP Member

After 20 overnight stays during a 12-month period.

• Regular information via the See You newsletter.
• A voucher worth SEK 50 in the lobby bar.
• Ten overnight stays give you one free night for 2 people during weekends or summer season (must to be prebooked).
• Mineral water in your room on your day of arrival.
• The possibility for your partner to stay free of charge in the same room, space permitting

Exclusive Member

After 35 overnight stays during a 12-month period.

• Regular information via the See You newsletter.
• A voucher worth SEK 50 in the lobby bar.
• Ten overnight stays give you one free night for 2 people during weekends or summer season (must to be prebooked).
• Free morning newspaper.
•  Mineral water in you room on your day of arrival.
• The possibility for your partner to stay free of charge in the same room, space permitting.
• Your own VIP-mail adress to the reservation department.
• A dinner for 2 persons, including a glass of beer, wine or non alcoholic alternative at Birger's Restaurant, after 35 overnight stays during a year.
• Complimentary garage when using your free night.

10 nights during a 12-month period give you one night free. To be used Friday-Sunday or during summer period, within 15 months from the first stay on the 10-card. The card is personal and can not be registered retroactively.

The membership is revised yearly. Any taxes in conjunction with Club BT offers are payable by the guest. Hotel Tegnérlunden reserves the right to make changes.
